Secret of a Business Coach

5 Secrets Business Coaches Don’t Tell You (But I Will)

October 11, 20242 min read

So, you’re thinking about hiring a business coach, huh? You’ve heard all the stories about how they can turn your business into a profit-making machine and magically solve your problems, right? Well, buckle up, because I’m about to spill the tea on a few things most business coaches won’t tell you upfront.

1. They Don’t Have All the Answers (And That's Okay)

Here’s the deal—your business coach isn’t some mystical oracle with all the answers. In fact, if they claim they are, run the other way! A good coach will guide you to find the answers yourself. Yep, turns out you had the power all along—just needed a little nudge in the right direction. It’s like when you lose your keys, and after hours of searching, they’re right in your pocket. The coach is the one who says, "Have you checked there?"

2. Your Success Requires Actual Effort (Sorry!)

Newsflash: success isn’t going to fall into your lap just because you hired a coach. If you’re thinking, “I’ll hire a coach and let them do all the heavy lifting,” well, it doesn’t work like that. They’ll give you the tools, strategies, and frameworks, but YOU have to do the work. It’s like buying a gym membership—you still have to get off the couch and sweat it out.

3. They Won’t Fix Your Bad Ideas

Got a business idea you think is pure gold? Spoiler alert: not every idea is a winner, and a coach won’t sugarcoat it for you. But that’s a good thing! A coach will challenge your ideas, poke holes in them, and push you to find better solutions. If your idea can survive that, it’s probably worth pursuing.

4. You’ll Be Uncomfortable (But That’s Where Growth Happens)

Most business coaches won’t tell you that working with them will push you out of your comfort zone. Like, waaay out. It’s not all pep talks and motivational quotes—there will be tough conversations and difficult decisions. Growth happens when you’re uncomfortable, kind of like those jeans you swore would fit after the holidays. (Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.)

5. They Want You to Outgrow Them

Now, this might sound crazy, but a great business coach is secretly hoping you’ll outgrow them. Their job is to give you the skills, confidence, and tools to crush it on your own. So, if after a year you don’t feel like you need them anymore, congratulations! They did their job right.

Now, if you’re ready to put in the work, get uncomfortable, and turn those “meh” ideas into business gold, I’d love to chat. I’m Marty, and I offer a "Let’s Get You Unstuck" call (because who doesn’t need a little unsticking now and then?). Let’s figure out how to get you moving forward, together.
